Lookabout Privacy Policy

Effective August 18, 2026 · applies to Lookabout: Point & Discover for iPhone and iPad

The short version: Lookabout doesn’t collect your data. There is no account to create, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. Everything personal happens on your device and stays there.

Your location

Lookabout uses your location, only while you’re using the app, to find landmarks and places near you. To look those up, your coordinates are sent over encrypted connections to three public services: Apple Maps, Wikipedia, and the National Park Service. Those requests contain coordinates and nothing else — no name, no account, nothing that identifies you. Lookabout keeps no record of where you’ve been: your location and location history are not stored, logged, or shared by the app.

Your camera

What your camera sees is analyzed entirely on your device, using Apple’s on-device recognition. Camera images never leave your phone. If you tap Save on a scan snapshot, the picture goes into your own photo library — and nowhere else. Lookabout can only add photos; it cannot read your library.

Descriptions and narration

The short introductions Lookabout writes are generated by Apple’s on-device intelligence, grounded in public sources — the Park Service, Wikipedia, the map. Voice narration is synthesized on your device. Nothing you look at, read, or listen to is transmitted anywhere.

Purchases

The Explorer unlock is a one-time purchase processed entirely by Apple’s App Store. I never see your payment details — Apple handles the transaction and simply tells the app that Explorer is unlocked.

What the services you contact can see

Like any request made over the internet, the lookups above reach Apple, Wikimedia, and the National Park Service with your device’s IP address, which they handle under their own policies: Apple, Wikimedia, National Park Service. Lookabout adds nothing to those requests beyond the coordinates needed to answer your question.

Children

Lookabout doesn’t collect personal information from anyone — including children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Since the app collects nothing, expect this page to stay boring.
